Mba Dreams Crushed By Corporate Tests, Found My Real Calling At Home

After college I got a job for Mega Corp as an analyst. My career was on step one, one year of orientation and my MBA would serve me up the corporate ladder. Along with me was the rest of the crop of MBAs. Washout rate was brutal, but I was up to the task.

Six months later I rotated into Finance, and the CFO was brutal, not impressed. He ordered a whole series of psychological tests, aptitude tests, leadership tests, stress tests. It wasn’t only me, the first year crop went through these tests. Make or break tests. I was summoned to a conference room, the CFO, the Director if HR recruiting, and a Dr. So in So responsible for analyzing the results.

I didn’t make the cut. I challenged them, him actually, the CFO. Go wash dishes, make beds, raise a crop of my own. I wasn’t cut out for Mega Corp. Sure, I cried, I was devastated, I had never failed. I just couldn’t face my father. My mother brokered the peace. He told me it was always a waste of money. I didn’t have that cut, I was more suited tor the kitchen and raising kids. I was like my mother.

Well, it was all true. I got married, have four kids, I ‘manage’ the house, the kids the home. Like my mother. That’s my nature. That’s who I am. Accepting myself was the hardest thing.
